Abstract
This study is entitled "Timber poaching in the locality of Barangay Diteki, San Luis, Aurora. Specifically this study aimed to identify the status of timber poaching incidence, tree species that are cut by the poachers, and non-timber forest products as alternative livelihood of the local of Barangay Diteki, San Luis, Aurora. This study used a descriptive method of research. Data were obtained using a questionnaire supplemented with personal interview. Other data needed were acquired from the office of Provincial Environment and Natural Resources (PENRO) at Barangay Pingit, Baler, Aurora. The statistical tools used in the analysis of data were simple frequency count and percentage. Data gathered from this study were tabulated, tallied, and categorized. The study revealed that poachers in Barangay Diteki in the year 2017 got 1963 bdft. of lumber and in the year 2021 the collected lumber decreased to 218 bdft. The highest collected tree species is Dipterocarp which is unidentified the common name with a total of 8,902 bdft. of lumber. Coconut is the most valuable alternative livelihood or non-timber forest products used by the residents of Barangay Diteki, San Luis, Aurora. Based on the results, BLGU and LGU should continue the implementation of forest laws and regulation to fully mitigate the timber poaching incidence. To regulate the cutting of Dipterocarp, residents' participation should be increase through conducting of information campaign. Promoting non-timber forest product will be of great help to the residents of Barangay Diteki, San Luis, Aurora.
