Master of Science in Environmental Management

The impact of the implementation of Community- Based Forest Management Strategy (CBFMS) through the Forestland Management Project (FMP) cannot be determined if no actual study conducted in the area. Hence, this study titled Implementation of Community-Based Forest Management (CBFM) through the Forestland Management Project (FMP) in Region III: Benefits to Economic, Social and Technological Aspects of the Stakeholders focused on determining the profile and benefits to economic, social, and technology of the respondent derived from the Forestland Management Project (FMP) with CBFMS. Also, to determine the relationship or correlation between the profile of the respondents and the benefits they obtained from the project.
The locale of the study were the two participating municipalities with FMP areas which is Carranglan and Pantabangan in Nueva Ecija. The respondents of the study were the 300 members and officers of the participating 35 People’s Organizations present in the said two municipalities. The results of the study on profiling the respondents shows that the bulk of respondents’ age were those who belonged to bracket 50 and above, 77.33% of the respondents were male. In terms of occupation, most of the respondents were farmers with a percentage of 77.62% of the total number of respondents.
In terms of economic benefits, the results also shown that the respondents’ income increased after FMP, this may apply that the Community-Based Forest Management Strategies (CBFMS) implemented in the Forestland Management Project (FMP) in the province of Nueva Ecija could said effective in terms of increasing the income of the participating community. In general, People’s Organizations involved in the FMP enjoyed social benefits though there were areas by which this needs to be improved. Also, the respondents had developed and acquired knowledge/skills in the implementation of the given commodity activities and planting/cropping schemes.
With regard to the issues/problems of the respondents on the implementation of FMP, Forest fire, El Niño/long dry season, and slash and burn were identified to be the major issue or problem encountered by the respondents. However, to improve similar reforestation project in the future and to minimized isues and problems during its implementation the respondents suggested to “maintain fireline, installed plastic drums in the area & conduct regular patrol works”; “Early timing of planting should be practiced during dry rainy season”; “Conduct training on capacity building to People’s Organization”; and “Conduct community organizing to people’s organization”.
The results of the correlation to establish relationship between profile of the respondents and their benefits derived from the implementation of FMP shows that the years of involvement of the respondents was significantly related to the social benefits derived from FMP with a computed value of 0.309**, it could be said that the longer the respondents involved in the FMP the greater social benefits they can acquire in the project.
