Summary, etc | This study was an inventory of dipterocarp in Brgy. San Ildefonso. The sampling sites covered Sitio Dimakasiw, Banlik, and Dialang. Three stations were established at intervals of 300meters in each site. Quadrat sampling was used in the inventory of Dipterocarp species. Three stations were established for each sampling site at intervals of 300m in each site. Three quadrats, each measuring 100m x 100m in each site were established. There were 316 individuals belonging to eight species of dipterocarp which listed. The data on species composition and diversity show that species diversity is high in all three sites.
The species inventoried were Bagtikan (Parashorea malaanonan), Almon (Shorea almon), Guijo (Shorea guiso), Narig (Vatica mangachapoi), Apitong (Dipterocarpus grandiflorus), White Lauan (Shorea contorta), Tanguile (Shorea polysperma), and Mangachapoi (Hope acuminate). There were 316 individual trees belonging to eight species of Dipterocarp listed. The data on species composition and diversity is high in all three sites.
In 4,423.11 hectares surveyed, the total projected volume of harvestable trees is 93,221.45m3 or 39,5050,013 board feet. Bagtikan got the highest volume followed by Almon, Guijo, Apitong, White Lauan, and Narig. Tanguile and Mangachapui contribute small volume of trees in three study sites.
Dipterocarp species is the most exploited tree species in the country, therefore, this study recommends that San Ildefonso must be protected by the administration of Aurora pacific Economic Zone and Freeport (APECO) and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR). Holistic ecosystem approach to forest resource management should be put into practice in the entire San Ildefonso. |
