Summary, etc This study aimed to celebrate to correlate the socio-demographic profile of the respondents towards the level of environmental awareness, attitudes, and participation of public and private secondary school students in Casiguran, Aurora, as basis for the development of an advocacy program. The socio-demographic profile included grade level, type of school, parent’s educational attainment, and parent’s occupation. The level of environmental awareness, attitudes and participation was determined. The study was conducted at Lual National High School and Mount Carmel College of Casiguran, Aurora. The data were gathered through survey questionnaire. The data were categorized and subjected to statistical treatments such as frequency count, weighted mean, and independent t-test.
Using t-test to validate correlation coefficients, findings show that there is a significant and substantial relationship between environmental awareness and type of school of the respondents. Similarly, respondents’ environmental attitude is significantly related to type of school. In terms of environmental practices, it was found out that the students’ level of environmental practices does not significantly relate to the type of school.
Respondents’ environmental awareness and attitude significantly correlated to the educational attainment of their parents. But there is no significant relationship between parents’ occupation and students’ level of environmental awareness, attitudes, and practices. It was concluded that the students have a slight idea of environmental concepts, an average level of environmental attitudes, and good environmental practices, hence their average level of awareness has a bearing on their good environmental practices.
In terms of comparison of level of practices from public and private schools, the students from the public school had a higher level of good environmental practices compared to the students from the private school as indicated in the overall weighted mean of 2.08 and 2.05 respectively. Finally, the overall weighted mean denotes that the students have good practices towards the environment in various ways. In environmental attitudes, both public and private secondary students have a negative attitude towards environment as indicated by the overall weighted mean of 2.70 and 2.64 respectively.
