| Summary, etc | The project, Swine Fattening project started with ten (10) head of weanlings that were grown until they reached a liveweight of 5-90 kg. The fattening was done at the ASCOT piggery project from the first week of November 199 to the first week of March 1999.<br/>An amount of P10,000.00 from PDM given as support and P41,517.60 which served as owner’s equity (project proponent) were used to finance the pre-operating expenses and the pilot phase (initial phase) while the succeeding years of operation was financed by the college.<br/>The project produced 884 kg liveweight of hogs out of 10 heads with an average weigth of 84.4 kg.<br/>The total sales amounted to p71, 688.25 while the total production cost (excluding the pre-operating expenses) was P49,517.60. After deducting the operating expenses from the gross sales, a net income of P22,170.65 was derived. The computed return on investment was 44.77 percent which means that the project is profitable.<br/>Most pork and other swine products were sold to post0harvest students in turn made into “longganisa” and “tocino” as requirements for their Occupational Internship Program (OIP). While other swine products were sold to ASCOT employees, staff and students.<br/>Swine fattening project served as a laboratory site/training ground for DAT-BAT students for production and post-harvest activities. Moreover, the project served as a show window of the school for instruction, production and research purposes. |
