Summary, etc Mushrooms are the fruiting bodies of macro fungi, but the have been placed in a kingdom of their own called the kingdom of Myceteæ (Fungi). Some of the substrates in growing oyster mushrooms include sawdust and rice straw.
The study was conducted to evaluate the production of oyster mushrooms using rice straw and sawdust as substrate. The objectives were to determine the growth, yield performance, and ideal substrate ratio of oyster mushrooms. The experiment used a Complete Random Design with four treatments and three replications. The data gathered were days to complete mycelial growth, days to primordia initiation, number of harvested branches, days to first harvest, cap diameter, and total yield.
The results showed at 70% rice straw + 30% sawdust treatment had the fastest mycelial growth among all treatments, however there were no significant difference among treatments for other growth factors like primodial initiations. For the yield parameters, the 70% rice straw + 30% sawdust treatment had the largest cap diameter and gained the highest total yield. In conclusion, the combination of rice straw and sawdust was effective for oyster mushroom cultivation, with the 70:30 ration being optimal. Further testing under controlled conditions is recommended to optimized growth.
