520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. |
Summary, etc |
Marine Protected Area (MPA) is a collective name chosen to encompass all marine sanctuaries, reserves, no-fishing areas and parks, whether they have a national, local or informal status.
MPAS were chosen as the focus of the workshop because this is an area where there has been many recent advances, both in the establishment of MPAs and in identifying the potential benefits. However, there is very little published site specific information on the actual benefits, the research and impact studies that go into site selection or the on-going monitoring and evaluation that can determine the success or failure of a MPA project.
Seven major themes were covered:
• Legislation
• Establishing
• Education
• Monitoring
• Management
• Livelihoods
• Gender |
