Attitudes related to oral reading performance of Grade VI pupils in Dilasag district

The study was conducted in all public elementary schools in the District of Dilasag. The data were gathered through survey questionnaire. The data were categorized and subjected to statistical treatments such as frequency count, weighted mean, and test of correlation. The respondents were composed of 167 Grade VI pupils from public elementary schools in the District of Dilasag. The results of the study revealed that the respondents were dominated by females. Majority of them are non-Catholic, and they use Filipino as their medium of instruction. With regards to the location of school, the greater number of respondents are within the barangays. In terms of pupils’ attitudes, they have positive behavioural, cognitive and emotional attitudes towards English language. Oral reading performance of pupils is under instructional level. Only the gender of the pupils is significantly to their oral reading performance. Among the problems encountered by the pupils in learning oral reading were the difficulty in speaking English language and the difficulty in understanding the lessons in English.
