Strategies of Kindergarten parents in teaching numeracy skills and their level of adaptation in modular distance learning

The study utilized descriptive method of research. Descriptive statistics and Spearman Correlation Test were used to analyze the data. In strategy of teaching, respondents always remind their children about the schedule of their study time (4.56), use colourful and creative drawings to get the attention of their child during instruction oftentimes (4.06), let their child draw and color large size numbers and shapes (4.34), download videos that will enhance the numeracy skills of their child (3.78), use oral computations as drill and review (4.03), reward their child with candies or coins for good performance in assessment (4.25), use story problems to introduce the numeracy skills that they are going to study (3.97), and checked their child’s answers on assessment letting them to review the items they misses (4.41). To cope with modular distance learning most of the respondents asked help from their neighbors. There was no significant relationship between the profile of the respondents and their strategy on teaching numeracy skills. Moreover, there was no significant relationship between the profile of the respondents and their strategies in coping with modular distance learning. However, there was significant relationship between the strategies of teaching numeracy skills and strategies in coping with modular distance learning. It is recommended that school must come up with a school based seminars that improve the teaching strategies of parents specially mothers as they are the common companion of the child. Moreover, efforts should be made to invite fathers in helping their child to learn as childcare must involve both parents. Parents should make schedule for learning time to avoid the need to always remind their child on the time to study. Moreover, it will help the child to prepare themselves in advance; this will also provide an exact length of time for studying as too much time may exhaust the child. Teachers should help the parents in learning the use of pictures, stories, and simple manipulative materials such as pebbles or sticks as teaching aids, also, parents should be familiarized on the use of gadgets in learning, the DepEd channels, radio stations and DepEd commons as additional resources of digital learning. Improvement of parent teaching should be done this time of modular learning because parents are still adopting and ready to adopt, as their strategy has significant relationship on their adaptation on modular distance learning.
