Abstract
This study was conducted to determine the Social Assessment of Protected Areas: The Case of Calabgan Watershed Forest Reserve (CWFR), Calabgan, Casiguran Aurora. Generally, the objective of this study aimed to identify the different effective intervention exerted by ACPAOAI and AUFAI that both contributes on CWFR and PO's development
The results revealed that most of the members of AUFAI and ACPAOAI organization benefited from CWFR. This means, most of the respondents benefited from Calabgan Watershed Forest Reserved, in terms of potable water, water for irrigation, and food and other minor forest products. Specifically, to determine the positive impact of CWFR on the lives of PA tenured migrants including total communities. Data gathered were analyzed and interpreted using simple statistics, such as simple frequency count and percentage. The total number of ACPAOAI respondents is 15 and the AUFAI is 15 with the total of 30 respondents.
Findings of the study shows the positive benefits of CWFR to the APAOAI respondents like the potable water, water irrigation, food, fuel, construction material and other livelihood minor forest products with the total weighted mean of 1.46 while for the AUFAI respondents had a total weighted mean of 1.38. In terms of the causes of negative effect like the crop damage by wildlife, uneven distribution of projects, poor relationship with CWFR migrants staff to ACPAOAI respondents, the total weighted mean is 2.37 while the AUFAI respondents is 2.87. In terms of the contribution of CWFR to social being like the material well-being, health well-being and cultural well-being, the total weighted mean of ACPAOAI respondents is 1.77 and the AUFAI is 1.63. This means most of the respondents benefited from Calabgan Watershed Forest Reserved, in terms of potable water, water for irrigation, food and other minor forest products. Calabgan Watershed Forest Reserved is very useful to the residents of Barangay Calabgan, Casiguran Aurora, most specifically to the members of AUFAI and ACPAOAI organization. Uneven-distribution of projects affects the Calabgan Watershed Forest Reserved.
