Abstract
This study focused on the Preparedness of Farmers in Barangay Simbahan, Dinalungan, Aurora towards identified calamities and their adaptation strategies. The objectives of the study were to determine the usual calamities that are identified by the farmers, to determine the level preparedness of farmers in Barangay Simbahan, Dinalungan, Aurora, to determine the impact of calamities that are identified by the farmers, and to identify adaptation strategies of the farmers in Barangay Simbahan, Dinalungan, Aurora.
The data needed were acquired from the officially registered farmers at the Municipal Agriculture Office of Dinalungan, Aurora. The statistical tools used in the analysis of data were simple frequency count and percentage. The researchers also analysis of data were simple frequency count and percentage. The researchers also employed a total enumeration sampling. The number of farmers in Dinalungan, Aurora was 140.
This study employed a descriptive method of research under quantitative research design with a self-made questionnaire as the main instrument in gathering information of the variables.
After the careful collection, analysis and interpretation of data, the study revealed that typhoon is the major calamity identified by the farmers with a frequency of 113 or 81 percent followed by floods with the frequency of 27 or 19 percent. In terms of preparing for calamities by the farmers, staying updated on weather announcement results can be verbally interpreted as strongly agree with a weighted mean of 3.66. It was found out that the major effect of calamities identified by the farmers is loss of profits verbally interpreted as strongly agree with a weighted mean of 3.75. And borrowing money as a capital has been the primary adaptation strategies identified by the farmers with a weighted mean of 3.35 verbally interpreted as strongly agree.
