Generally, this study was conducted to determine the appropriate level of vermicompost tea on the production components of cucumber. Specifically, this study was conducted to determine the growth parameters of cucumber in terms of plant height, number of leaves and branches, leaf area and number of pistillate flower; assess the yield performance of cucumber in terms of fruit length, fruit mass, numbers of fruits, weight of fruit and to determine the appropriate level of vermicompost tea to be applied in cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.)
A total of 192 plants were utilized in the study. The experimental plants were randomly distributed into four treatments and replicated three times using Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD). The different treatments were T1 - Control, T2 - 4L of VCT per plot, T3 - 6L of VCT per plot and T4 - 8L of VCT per plot. The experimental area was laid out using RCBD and the data were analyzed using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA).
The results revealed that the treatment applied with 4L of vermicompost tea per plot greatly influence the average plant height, the average fruit length, the average number of leaves, the average number of branches, the average fruit mass and total yield per treatment. However, it has no significant effect in terms of the average leaf area, the average number of pistillate flower, and the average fruit number. From the results, it can be concluded that among the four treatments, 4L of VCT per plot is the most effective on the production component of the cucumber. To produce higher and better yield performance of crops, the best levels of concentration is 4L of VCT per plot. Therefore, it is recommended to the farmers the use of vermicompost tea for better crop production.
