"This Data Series on Coconut Statistics, Philippines is PCARR's second attempt to consolidate existing statistical figures on a commodity basis. The first publication dwelt on rice, which PCARR published in collaboration with the International Rice Research Institute. Data series on sugarcane, corn and sorghum are forthcoming.
Various agencies were tapped for this publication, such as the National Census and Statistics Office, the Philippine Coconut Authority, the Bureau of Agricultural Economics, and the Bureau of Domestic Trade, among others. Agency differences as far as figures are concerned were reflected in the pre- sentations for PCARR. It should be acknowledged that these figures could not be merged as they have been arrived at using differing methodologies.
PCARR hopes that with this series of publications, interested parties -- especially the researchers -- will find the compiled data useful at least in saving them the time and effort that would otherwise be required in gathering data from various sources."
- J. D. DRILON, JR. Director General
