"This publication presents the results of the survey of the nata de coco industry conducted during the last quarter of 1993. The study focuses on supply and demand; constraints to production; social, economic, and environmental issues; potentials; and policy recom- mendations for a viable nata de coco industry.
The study attempts to provide a comprehensive analysis of the industry whose emerging prospects in the local, as well as, in the international market could have afforded a livelihood opportunity to the country's thousands of unemployed and poverty-stricken population but whose great potentials were dampened by many problems besetting the industry.
We hope that this volume could serve as guide to policymakers and development planners in formulating strategies and alternatives responsive to the needs of the nata de coco industry."
- William D. Dar
