Abstract
This study aimed to determine the socioeconomic evidence and environmental impact of the Mini-hydro power plant in the local community of barangay Ditumabo San Luis Aurora. San Luis implemented Micro-Hydro Power Projects in recognition of the fact that these communities are close to natural bodies of water in order to provide alternative energy sources for its remote barangays. In the present paper, a brief description of small hydro potential and the methodology for developing small hydropower projects has been discussed. The findings indicated that the advantages in environmental status in the Ditumabo area, on how hydropower affects their socioeconomic status during the time when hydro power is still functioning, does have a significant impact on the community. The disadvantages to the environment are proven to have a moderate impact and that the impact of the mini-hydro power plant to the socioeconomic status of the local community does have a moderate impact. This study concluded that the mini hydro power plant does have a significant to moderate impact on the community through socioeconomic and environmental. The mini hydro power plant in San Luis, Aurora had a great impact on the community since it provided livelihood and offered sustainability to the environment as it is a renewable energy source.
