Comparative Analysis on the Effectiveness of Intoxicating Yam (Dioscorea hispida) and Boton (Barringtonia asiatica) as Molluscicide

By: Contributor(s): Material type: TextTextPublication details: Aurora ASCOT 2023Description: xiii, 42 pages : colored illustrationsSubject(s): Summary: The study was conducted to compare the effectiveness of intoxicating yam (Dioscorea hispida) and boton (Barringtonia asiatica) as molluscicide. The study was conducted to compare effectiveness of intoxicating yam (Dioscorea hispida) tubers and boton (Barringtonia hispida) seed extract as molluscicide in terms of mortality rate of GAS according to time elapse. A total of one thousand fifty (1050) GAS was utilized in the study. The experimental GAS were randomly distributed into seven treatments, replicated three times using Complete Randomized Design (CRD). The treatments were T0 -3% of intoxicating yam extract solution, T2 -2% of intoxicating yam extract solution, T3 -3% of intoxicating yam extract solution, T4 -1% of boton extract solution, T5 -2% of boton extract solution, T6 -3% of boton extract solution. The gathered data were tested and analyzed using Statistical Tool for Agriculture Research (STAR). Treatments applied with Boton seen extract greatly affected the mortality rate of Golden Apple Snails (GAS). From the result it can be concluded that among the seven treatments, boton extract is the more effective extract to kill GAS that intoxicating yam. Utilizing its treatments is the best way to achieve higher and effective method to kill GAS as molluscicide. The treatment of boton seed extract contained 60ml of boton seed extract and 1940ml of water produce 2L solution.
