"This edition retains the format of the previous one; presenting facts and figures about each topic. We have tried to present up-to-date information on the areas discussed to ensure that the readers and students may acquire the proper perspective and insights.
Current issues are ever changing and developing in time and space. Today new twists and angles require new analyses and interpretations to social factors more relevant to everyday living.
Each chapter may be taken up independently of the others. It remains for the teacher to choose the problem current at the time for discussion.
We hope that the text will stimulate students to think and broaden their understanding of problems in their own small ways in their own circles, and thus, become effective agents of social change.
Prof. Milagros M. Ramos has left the academe and Prof. Ceferino A. Zaide, Jr. is presently residing in the United States. Hence, they were not able to join the group of authors in revising this new edition.
This new edition makes no pretense at being an exhaustive chronicle of the issues taken up. One semester is too short a period to take up the multitude of issues and social problems that demand attention. It is left to the initiative and ability of the teacher to encourage the student and stimulate their interest to continue the study of social issues beyond the confines of the classroom. The body of the text reflects data only available as of March, 1994."
