This study attempted to determine the species planted, area planted including the location and survival rate of the CY 2018 established plantations and the problems encountered by the People’s Organization during the implementation of the project. The data were categorized and subjected to descriptive statistics.
On the seventh (7th) year of implementation of the Enhanced National Greening Program (ENGP), the Province of Aurora has planted a total of 126,830 seedlings such as cacao, calamansi, citrus, jackfruit, mango, guyabano, pomelo, atis, duhat, rambutan, buhong tsina, kawayang tinik, kawayang killing, bayog propagules, chinese bamboo, and giant bamboo propagules.
The study had a total area of 634.15 hectares consisting of 10 polygons that were contracted to various qualified Peoples’ organizations (POs) namely: Abuleg-Calabgan Protected Area Occupants Association Inc. (ACPAOAI), Aguan Upland Farmers Assn.,inc. (AUFAI), Croppers Sharesman Association Inc. (CSAI), Dinadiawan Sagip Kalikasan Association, Inc. (DISKAI), Samahang Bantay Kalikasan ng CAsiguran, Aurora (SABAKAC), Talaytay Protected Landscape Occupants Assn. (TPLOA) Inc, Ugnayan Mamamayan ng Lungsod at Nayon, Inc. (UMALUN), Diayo Empower Distributor Multi-Purpose Association (DEDMA), L. Pimentel Upland Farmers Association (LUFA), and Dimasalang Egongot Tribe Farmers & Weavers Association Inc. (DETFAWAI).
The average survival rate under the jurisdiction of CENRO Casiguran, Aurora was 48.28% and 61.07% under the jurisdiction of CENRO Dingalan, Aurora with a total average Survival Rate of 55.34%.
One of the major problems encountered by the Peoples’ Organization who established the area was lack of fund for the maintenance for the succeeding years after three (3) years of maintenance and protection activities funded by the DENR that resulted to the low survival rate of the planted seedlings.
In terms of possible solutions given by the respondents, they suggested that livelihood opportunities in the upland areas should be enhanced in order to reduce timber poaching and ‘kaingin’ making.
